From its earliest days, when peddlers with carts sold produce around the town, to today’s market, which includes halal butchers, artisanal cheese mongers, and Cambodian fruit sellers, Haymarket hosts an ever-changing and diverse population. Haymarket has witnessed the Central Artery rise in the 1950s and retreat underground with the Big Dig in 2007. These obstacles have not stopped the market from serving a constant stream of students and tourists, longtime residents and newly arrived immigrant families, making it a vital and vibrant part of the city.
